Wegovy

semaglutide · a GLP-1 receptor agonist · made by Novo Nordisk

Wegovy is the weight-management brand of semaglutide — the same molecule as Ozempic, studied and approved specifically for obesity. This is where the large weight-loss trial figures come from.

The short answer

Wegovy is a brand name for semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist made by Novo Nordisk and FDA-approved for chronic weight management (and, since 2024, for reducing cardiovascular risk in adults with obesity or overweight who also have heart disease). It is the same molecule as Ozempic; the difference is the approved use and the dose ceiling studied for each. The headline obesity weight-loss numbers come from Wegovy’s trial program.
